Bruce Springsteen tribute band to perform

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Summer Concert Series concludes Saturday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. with the Undecided Band opening for Bruce Springsteen tribute band Jersey at St. Helena Heritage Park,123 Tuscarawas St. NW.

Admission is free. Food and beverages, including alcohol, will be available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair for seating. The on-site parking fee is $15.

Learn about becoming a foster parent

CANTON – Stark County Job & Family Services will hold an information meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Division of Children Services, 402 Second St. SE, about becoming a foster parent. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 1 via Zoom.

Attendees can talk with a licensing specialist, ask questions about the foster care and adoption process, and meet other families. Meetings are free and open to the public. To register, contact Jennifer Loomis at 330-451-8789 or Jennifer.Loomis@jfs.ohio.gov.

The process to become a foster and adoptive parent requires training and licensing through Stark County Job & Family Services and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Tickets available Thursday for Jenna Bush Hager event

CANTON – Tickets will be available starting at 8 a.m. Thursday at StarkLibrary.org for the Dr. Audrey Lavin Speaking of Books Author Series with Jenna Bush Hager. Hager’s appearance at the Palace Theatre on Oct. 24 will kick off the 10th season of the series.

Humanitarian, co-host of “Today with Hoda and Jenna,” literacy advocate and best-selling author, Hager has written several books, including “Everything Beautiful in Its Time,” a collection of essays paying homage to her grandparents, as well as several children’s books.

Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ticket options will include a choice of a free ticket (limit of six free tickets per person) and a $75 “Gold” ticket that will include reserved/premium seating, a signed copy of Hager’s book, and a meet and greet with her at the conclusion of the event.

Latino Fest is Saturday

CANTON – The Canton Latino Fest, honoring Hispanic Heritage Month, will be from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Plaza, 330 Court Ave. NW. The event will include music, Latin food trucks, games, cultural dancers, vendors and bounce houses. Admission is free.

Soup at Six lecture: Protecting cultural treasures during wartime

CANTON – McKinley Presidential Library & Museum Executive Director Kim Kenney and 20-year Air Force veteran Maj. Karen Everman will present the program "Protecting the Past" from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the museum. The program is part of the museum's Soup at Six lecture series.

The program will cover why protecting cultural treasures during wartime is complicated. The rules of engagement often prohibit the military from responding to threats close to historic cultural sites. Learn more about the bravery of curators, the destruction of antiquities, and the importance of historical memory.

Country music dance Sept. 8

CANTON – The Hot Cargo Band will be performing from 2 to 5 p.m. at the AmericanLegion,1633 Cleveland Ave. NW, next Sunday. Donation at the door is $5.

Canton Country Music holds dances on the second Sunday of the month.The doors open at1:15 p.m. Food isavailable as well as lottery tree and 50/50 drawing. The danceisopen to the public. No alcohol or outside food is permitted.

Carnival of Wheels is next Sunday

JACKSON TWP. − The annual Canton Carnival of Wheels will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 on the campus of Stark State College, 6200 Frank Ave. NW.

The Canton Carnival of Wheels is a showcase for owners of a diverse array of vehicles. The vehicle participation fee is $10.The show donates all net proceeds to Stark State’s Automotive Technology Scholarship Fund.

Law enforcement from Jackson Township, Stark County and Canal Fulton will stage K-9 demonstrations. There will be a 50/50 drawing, silent auction, engine valve cover car racing for adults, Hot Wheels racing for kids, the presentation of awards and a range of food choices. Players Guild to present ‘Jekyll and Hyde’

Tom Petty tribute band to perform Friday

JACKSON TWP. – Tom Petty tribute band King’s Highway will perform from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Nash Family Jackson Amphitheater, 7454 Community Parkway NW. (Information has been corrected to fix as error. See correction below. 9:45 a.m. Sept. 2)

Traditional music, house tours, beekeeping at Quail Hollow Park

  • Traditional Music Nights, Thursday and Sept. 19: Bring an instrument and join in, or enjoy listening to traditional, bluegrass and Celtic tunes from 6 to 9 p.m. inside the Stewart Manor House. Admission is $2 for everyone. No registration is required.
  • Quail Hollow Manor House Tours, Sept. 8 and 22: Take a guided tour of the 1920s-era, H.B. Stewart Manor House. Tours begin at 2 p.m. and last about one hour. Walk-ins only. No pre-registration is required. The fee is $5 cash at the door for ages 5 and up with a maximum of $20 per family. The building does not have an elevator.
  • Beekeeping 101: Hive Threats, Friday: Learn about threats to honeybee hives and suit up and head to the hives to get a closer look at the bees in action from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Closed-toe shoes and preregistration are required. The fee is $5 for in-county residents and $7 for out-of-county residents.

History Discussion Group meets Tuesday

MASSILLON – Museum archivist Mandy Altimus Stahl will moderate the Massillon Museum’s History Discussion Group from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday as participants discuss bizarre and unusual events in their life.

The free event in the Fred F. Silk Community Room is open to everyone. Liebermann’s pastries and coffee are available for a donation. Yankee Peddler Festival next three weekends

NORTH LAWRENCE – The 51st annual Yankee Peddler Festival will be held at Clay's Park, 13190 Patterson Road, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22. The event offers a visit to pioneer America. Visit with the militia and mountain men or learn crafts with hands-on instruction. Visit with the master crafters and artists and view their wares for sale. Sample food from colonial days.

Woodwind quintet to perform Thursday

PLAIN TWP. – A woodwind quintet from the Canton Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Plain Township Amphitheater, 2600 Easton St NE. This is the final concert of this year’s Stark Parks’ and the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Serenades in the Park.

Walk for Suicide Awareness is Sept. 8

PERRY TWP. – Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery and Stark County Suicide Prevention Coalition will host a free Walk for Suicide Awareness from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 at Petros Lake Park, 3519 Perry Drive SW.

People affected by suicide loss, those struggling with suicidal thoughts, and those wanting to show support to prevent suicide are welcome.

Pre-walk activities are from 9:30 to 10 a.m., opening remarks begin at 10, and the one-mile walk will follow. The event will be held rain or shine. No preregistration is required. For more information, visit https://tinyurl.com/mr37puvs.
