General Discussion - What just happened to the economy? - Forum - Path of Exile (2024)

Checked poe ninja. I see that in metamorph league the value of the most valuable items in the game (MoK, exalts, div cards like house of mirrors and all HH related div cards, and more) has gone down quite a bit recently. I don't know if this is the best place to ask, but does anyone have any idea as to why? what happened?

They announced that they were going to announce the next league. Happens every time.

Demand is drying up and supply is remaining constant. Take a class.

This happens every league, since leagues merge into standard at the end the prices will generally drop to match standard price.

Yes, many players have left the game.

But usually, there will also be plenty of new players that are playing suddenly before the new league starts so that they can be aware of some of the new changes. It is evident by the number of questions pertaining to the new atlas.

Those aren't the customers you're looking for.

Due to the recent news postings, people got aware of the fact that the league is ending soon, so prices dropped in order to reflect the prices from Standard league.

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

League is dead. The demand has fall, same with prices. Wolcen is the new cool kid in town.

Wolcen:
Steam has 58% good reviews only.
Reviews tell us there are many bugs.

League prices:
Most prices in standard are much higher, because there is a lot more currency.
But some items you can't sell in STD if there are much better legacy versions
(e.g. two-toned boots).

Great, I might finally be able to afford some of the item that were so overpriced for last 3 or 4 weeks. Let's see if I can blow my exalts on some decent gear and make a new build to crush the end-game with it.

League prices for items and currency tend to equilibrate upwards to match Standard, towards the last 3 weeks of league.

Thanks to the abundance of currency in Standard, the price of everything is inflated and stays that way, even after League content has had a chance to go core. This is simple inflation, and the value of items is still fairly constant, barring nerfs or buffs to specific items.

That said, some items fall in price and never recover, due to market saturation and low late-game utility. Chancing bases, tabulas, veiled items, prophecies that aren't Fated Connections/Valley of Steel Boxes, non-Shaper/Elder frag sets, watchstones that aren't +1 monsterlevel, etc. all hit a low-tide mark around this time. League-specific uniques that aren't consumables (e.g. Templar Hands) drop to bulk rates.

Some items still retain value throughout, because they're consumables. I've never had problems getting a fair price for uniques that fall under the broad category of "suitable to use on an Animated Guardian".

Currency is wacky right now, in part because of the awakeners orb prenerf issue, and partly because of a league duping glitch that has been patched. We won't know how much knock-on effects this ripple will have in Standard until the stash actually arrives in Standard; I'm not seeing price suppression of, say, divine orbs or craicic chimerals in Standard at this time.
