What Is Ostara?

Ostara is an ancient holiday that marks the vernal equinox and celebrates the coming of springtime in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a time of new beginnings, when the hours of daylight increase, and winter solstice gives way to longer days. This wonderful time of year has long been celebrated by many cultures, from Jewish people who place eggs as part of their Passover Seder to Germanic tribes who worshipped a maiden goddess at this time.

In modern times, Ostara is becoming increasingly popular in the United States and other parts of the world. A great addition to your local grocery store shelves may well be orange juice, eggs, potatoes and fresh fruits – all symbols of Ostara. With these components you can make food processor-made potato latkes or oven-baked round balls with wire rack for crispy edges. You could even add enough dressing to make a simple salad full of flavor!

For young children and adults alike, Ostara is a good time to celebrate with family and friends. There are lots of ways to mark this special day; some families will do spring cleaning while others may exchange gifts or simply enjoy each other’s company over dinner. Whatever you choose to do on this day, it’s sure to be a great time!

If you’re looking for something different this year, why not consider celebrating Ostara? It’s a wonderful way to honor medieval traditions while still finding joy in the natural world around us after such a long winter. Whether indoors or out, it’s always nice to find a warm spot (or perhaps even take advantage of an early warm spell) and spend some quality time together in what is often referred to as “the first day of spring”. Celebrating Ostara is a great way to bring luck into your home and heart – so why not give it a try?

What Is The Spring Equinox?

Spring Equinox (also called Ostara) is a time of the year that is important and special for many people. It is the day when the equinox occurs, and therefore the first day of spring. The name is derived from Eostre or Ostara, the name of an Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility. In earlier times, this day was celebrated as a symbol of rebirth and new beginning after winter.

Nowadays, many people celebrate Ostara as a festival to celebrate the beginning of spring. This includes hiding brightly painted Easter eggs in the garden and in household communities, which is similar to other Jewish holidays. Many people also believe that starting something new in this month will bring them good luck.

There are other ways to celebrate the Spring Equinox: those involved in spiritual practices know it as “Spring Sabbats,” but of course there are many other traditions around the world. The Equinox takes place in both the North and the South – but in different months; so it must be remembered that this is a long time! In the north it usually affects March/April and in the south September/October.

But no matter where you are – in a warm place or not – the Spring Equinox is celebrated every year on March 21/22! So it’s time to gather your courage and get going – whether you want to put your ideas into action or just want to change your environment – now is the perfect moment! Let the sun god inspire you and set out on the path with new motivation towards the future!
